THE STARTING POINT / A GIFT TO MYSELF

Built for my N5 journey.
Shared with other learners.

I started Omoidashi to support my own study before the Japanese N5 exam. It was also a gift to myself for my 23rd birthday: something I could build and use in my everyday learning.

I built the project in one week with Claude’s assistance. The positive response from other users made it more meaningful—it could help people beyond my own study routine.

MY ROLE / PRODUCT BUILDER

Research, decide, and build.

I researched several competing products, decided which features Omoidashi should include, and moved directly into development. My own study needs gave the project its starting point; competitor research helped me shape what to build.

THE PRODUCT

A small practice, worth coming back to.

Omoidashi helps learners build Japanese knowledge through vocabulary recall, character practice, and reading in context. Explore each feature below, with previews following the production interface.

210N5 vocabulary cards
412N4 vocabulary cards
3×Consecutive recalls before take-out

Interactive previews use selected sample material. Progress stays within this page.

01 / FLASHCARDS

Recall first. Reveal when you need it.

Chapter-based flashcards bring the word, reading, meaning, word class, and example sentence together. Three consecutive recalls unlock take-out, so the session can focus on words that still need practice.

  1. 1Choose N5 or N4, then open a chapter.
  2. 2Tap or select Flip to reveal the reading and example.
  3. 3Swipe right for Paham, left for Ulangi. After three recalls, choose whether to remove the card.

02 / KANA

Connect each character to its sound.

Hiragana and Katakana share a familiar grid and quick romaji quiz. Correct answers mark the character as learned, making progress visible without leaving the exercise.

  1. 1Switch between Hiragana and Katakana.
  2. 2Select a character and type its romaji.
  3. 3Check your answer, then continue to the next character.

  1. 1Tap the flip card to reveal its reading.
  2. 2Switch to Stroke Order and select a numbered stroke.
  3. 3Use Tandai hafal to update the progress indicator.

05 / READING

Understand the sentence, one layer at a time.

Reading starts with a Japanese sentence. Its explanation reveals the hiragana, meaning, and individual kanji breakdown only when requested, giving learners time to try on their own.

  1. 1Read the sentence and try to understand it first.
  2. 2Open Lihat Penjelasan to reveal its reading and meaning.
  3. 3Explore the kanji breakdown, then continue to another sentence.

06 / PROGRESS

Small actions become visible progress.

Production brings XP, level progress, learned characters and activity days together. Each successful flashcard recall adds 3 XP; the example here responds to your flashcard practice above.

23A GIFT TO MYSELF

WHAT I TAKE FROM THIS PROJECT

Built for myself.
Useful to someone else.

The most rewarding part was seeing other learners respond positively to something I first built for my own N5 preparation.

  1. THE NEEDN5 preparation
  2. THE BUILDOne week with Claude
  3. THE REWARDHelping others learn
My takeaway

A need I experienced myself gave me a concrete starting point. Researching competing products helped me decide what to build; the response from other users made the project meaningful beyond my own use.
